Adaptations

Adaptations are features of animals and plants that increase their chances of surviving and reproducing. Weeds have adaptations that help them to out-compete the native plants that are found in the area. Normally natural predators and pests keep the numbers of plants in check but the overseas weeds arrive without these controls.

Natural pests have attacked these gum leaves.

Weeds out-compete many local species for water, light and nutrients. They do this through their natural adaptations.
