Remaining deliveries will occur in Term 1, 2016. For those schools in the eT4L ecosystem, your nominated ICT Coordinator or onsite support person will be able to use the F12 build function on compatible devices ordered and distribute any relevant software applications via the Universal Desktop Manager (UDM).  If there are any queries in relation to your T4L hardware order or delivery, please do not hesitate to email T4L@det.nsw.edu.au

Closed captions assist with learning and literacy for all students by improving understanding and recall of information, with research showing that they are essential for one in three students in Australia with learning difficulties and disabilities. Visit the Cap That! Resource site for more details.

Lenovo Desktop “Blue Screen” Info item

Many schools have experienced “blue screenerror messages occurring randomly on some of their Lenovo M73 (base model) desktop computers over the past several weeks.  Thanks for your patience while the problem was confirmed, investigated and possible solutions tested.  A solution for this issue that only affects some Lenovo ThinkCentre M73 (10B7) desktops, has now been made available for eT4L and non-eT4L schools. Please refer to the Lenovo ThinkCentre M73 (10B7) BIOS Remediation Guide for information on how this solution can be applied to your affected desktops.

eT4L Software Catalogue Tip item

There are over 1,800 software titles now in the eT4L Software Catalogue. Wouldn’t it be great to easily find titles that have been tried and tested in class and recommended for use?  The Catalogue offers not only a repository of titles, but an easy way of rating and commenting on any program, on each title’s page.  If your school has found software that is making a difference in the classroom, then tell others about it.  Find the title in Software Catalogue, then click the appropriate star rating and add a comment and recommendation so that others can find that software more easily.  The more ratings and comments, the more useful the eT4L Software Catalogue will be for all schools. Also, you should consider dedicating one PC for testing purposes.  It’s important to confirm the suitability of programs (particularly freeware) before deciding on wider deployments of any desired package to all computers in your school.

AirServer, iOS9 update issue Tip item

AirServer is a useful tool for wirelessly mirroring iPad displays to the classroom projector. While AirServer is not supported by the ICT Service Desk, schools have been reporting a problem using AirServer with iOS9 iPads.  A new version of AirServer was released in late September which needs to be installed. However, schools reported that an error relating to Universal C Runtime in Windows was stopping the installation.  To rectify this, you will need to install this update while logged on as an administrator equivalent, then install the AirServer update. If you can wait, all eT4L schools will get this update with the next patch fix by November.

Chrome browser availability News item

You may have noticed recently that previous versions of the Google Chrome browser in the eT4L Software Catalogue have been “retired” while the latest version is “in progress”.  This means that Chrome is not currently available to be added to your school’s UDM for deployment. Serious issues with the browser have been reported and we are currently working with Google to address the problem.  If there is a need to use a browser other than the recently updated Internet Explorer 11, it is recommended that the school consider requesting Firefox from the Software Catalogue and deploying it with UDM.
