Protecting yourself

There are three main areas to protect yourself. These are the eyes, skin and lungs.

Body part Protection

eyes

can be protected by wearing goggles and making sure that chemicals in test tubes are never pointed towards anyone.

skin

can be protected by covering the body with a lab coat made of nonflammable material

lungs

avoid inhaling fumes as these may damage the soft tissue of the lungs, you may have access to a fume cupboard to reduce the risk of inhaling fumes
