More on using the right equipment

Choose the right equipment for the job. If you have a liquid you can choose from the equipment below.

A beaker is designed to contain liquids for mixing, stirring and heating. The lip on the top is for pouring liquids. Most beakers are made of heat-resistant glass. Beakers have measurements on the side.

The narrow neck of a conical flask allows it to have a stopper. This prevents spilling and reduces evaporation. The flat bottom makes it stable on surfaces.

Test tubes are used to hold multiple samples in separate containers. They are usually made from pyrex and can be used for heating.

A dropper delivers small amounts of liquid in a controlled way.

A watchglass is for observing small amounts of liquids.
