Historic win

In 2008 this idyllic retreat was under threat by developers who wanted to build 25 luxury houses at the site. An effective campaign was launched by the Friends of Currawong to stop this development and the entire site was added to the State Heritage Register.

They utilised methods such as:

• emailing and writing letters to various government ministers

• media coverage

• creation of a website and a blog

• rallies

• meeting with the Government Minister for Planning.

However, the Government is coming under increasing pressure to amend these heritage listings to make way for development.
