Girl: I've been living in this area, Gymea, for about 12 years now.
We moved here just before I began primary school.
I feel the park is extremely important to the community, as it's a safe place
for children to play together and meet up with their friends.
It's tucked away from main roads, which is important and it's actually where
my brother met one of his best friends who he now goes to school with.
So it's a place where children and parents can meet each other.
We didn't actually find out the council was
going to take the equipment from the park.
It was just gone one day when I came home from school which was devastating
because I frequently played in the park with my
brother and sister and now there was nothing.
We were told that a lot of the play equipment in the parks in the
Sutherland Shire were classified as old and unsafe and therefore
they were going to have to be removed.
Our old park had a big swing that went really high and a fort which had
two levels so it was like our little cubby house we used to play in,
which was lots of fun, so it was devastating when it went.
