School to Work Reporting

The 2018 School to Work (STW) report is now available to schools. Consultation with stakeholders has taken place this year to ensure our report meets the needs of all stakeholders.

Workplace Learning Guides

The Senior Pathways Officer from your School Services Directorate will contact your school during Term 4 to ask how many Workplace Learning Guides the school will need in 2019.

Ensure that you don't miss out by providing all the details requested in a reply email to your Senior Pathways Officer.

iEntrepreneur project

The iEntreprenur project was delivered at the Sydney School of Entrepreneurship during terms 2 and 3 by Generation Entrepreneur. The project aimed to implement entrepreneurial learning in NSW public schools. School teams were selected through an Expression of Interest.

The program delivered six workshops over three months and concluded with a demonstration evening. Students were encouraged to develop a social enterprise idea. They found the program challenging but were surprised that it enabled them to deliver credible and valued business concepts. This was enabled through the support of their mentors, the content of the workshops and their ability to use the expertise in their team.

Student teams experienced the benefits and values of entrepreneurial learning, risk-taking, and innovation in delivering their social enterprise idea.

Confused about documents needed for school visitors?

The requirements are different depending on who is visiting and the purpose. Parents have their own category, for example, if a parent is helping with reading or coaching sport they have different requirements to a person coming in as a guest speaker or running a workshop for students.

Try this handy table to help you work out what you need to collect. The SAS staff can enter and check details on eCPC.

Legal Services have detailed information on their intranet page.

NESA's up2now

This resource allows high school students to record, organise and share their extracurricular activities. They can create a resume and present their achievements in a portfolio to show prospective employers.

Careers advisers can use up2now with students who intend to leave school before completing the Higher School Certificate.

Teachers can use it for vocationally focused lessons.

To register your school, you need the principal's approval and your NESA school registration number.

illuminate:nextgen Challenge

The illuminate:nextgen Challenge engages secondary students in entrepreneurship skills. It runs from 19 - 23 November 2018 with an awards evening on Friday 23 November.

The program allows students to experience first-hand what it takes to be an entrepreneur and small business champion. Facilitated by skilled staff with the support of the local business community, students learn what it takes to start a new business in a week, going through the process of developing the idea, refining it, making sure it connects with customers and is viable – all the way up to pitching for investment to get it off the ground!

Students learn useful life skills including stress and team management, independent learning, budgeting, planning, creative thinking, and public speaking.

Run a VET Information Day

A VET Information Day can inform and educate your school community about VET as a career pathway.

The Career Industry Council of Australia and the Australian government have created a VET Career Resource Kit to help careers advisers to provide accurate and current VET information for students and their families. It includes activity ideas, promotional material and films to help make the event planning easier.

For more information see the myskills website.

SALT continues to educate girls

An innovative collaboration between Liverpool Girls High and Warwick Farm Public School saw girls of all ages trying their hand at using woodworking tools in September. It is never to early to start talking about careers. Well done to the teachers at these schools for bringing this together.
