New look Senior Pathways Team

At the end of 2018, we farewelled Rosemary Brook who has decided to explore options outside of the department. Sue MacLean has gone on long leave for all of 2019. We wish them well and will miss their great depth of knowledge of both policy and procedures.

Our team welcomes Alison Hughes as the Leader, who comes with great experience from Ultimo School Services Directorate. Also joining us as the Relieving Coordinator Workplace Learning is Glenda O'Brien. Similarly very experienced, Glenda comes from Tamworth School Services Directorate.

The rest of the team includes:
  • Brendan Gembitsky - Manager Workplacement Coordination. He is an all round expert on VET Workplacement and Ready, Arrive, Work (RAW).
  • Robert Lawson - Student Pathways Advisor. The guru on workplace learning guides and documents. He also organises Transition Adviser training.
  • Gigi Awadalla - Transition Advisor. If you want to know about entrepreneurial learning, myfuture, School to Work reporting, Rural and Remote career initiatives or the Student Pathways Survey/Plan then Gigi is your point of contact.

National Career Education Strategy

The Australian Government has recently announced that they are developing a National Career Education Strategy to increase awareness and make career education nationally consistent.

Future Ready:
The vision is that every student in every school has access to high‑quality career education to help them make a successful transition from school to further education, training, work or a combination of these.

The strategy focuses on improving career education in schools by:

  • building teacher and school leader capability
  • supporting parents and carers in their important role in these conversations
  • encouraging collaboration between industry and schools.
The document has information relevant to all of these stakeholders.
