Millimetres and centimetres

Millimetres and centimetres

‘Milli’ means ‘a thousandth of a whole’. There are 1000 millimetres (mm) in a metre, so millimetres are used to measure things that are not very big.

‘Centi’ means ‘a hundredth of a whole’. There are 100 centimetres (cm) in a metre, so medium-sized objects are measured in centimetres.
