Charles Bean’s war

Some of your first writing from Egypt was in relation to the Australian soldiers' behaviour in Cairo. Can you tell us about the nature of that writing, especially one particular newspaper article?

Charles Bean wrote extensively during the war and not all his writing was simply intended to let the Australian public know what was happening. At other times hints (.docx 528kB) and ulterior motives were at work. In Cairo (.docx 528kB) Bean wrote an article for the Sydney Morning Herald telling about the behaviour of some Australians soldiers.
