Choose words that will encourage students to extend their visual language using descriptive word rather than nouns that simply name what is seen. For example, if students are looking at Brett Whiteley’s painting Walking down a street at Palm Beach, vetoed and must-use words might be:

Vetoed words: sun, road, trees

Must-use words: searing, radiating, disappearing, colour, temperature
