Design features
New cars are now designed and constructed to have low fuel consumption. Designs are smaller and lighter, and materials such as carbon fibre, plastic, aluminium and fibreglass are used. Examine how different automakers are reducing the weight of their cars to reduce fuel consumption. Cars are shaped to be streamlined. This reduces friction between the car and the wind and improves the performance of the car and the amount of petrol it uses. This is known as aerodynamics. Watch a video about car design and aerodynamics. The Green Vehicle Guide helps you select a car with lower fuel consumption. |
