Picture book characters
The characters in picture books are very important. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is a highly successful picture book which has been popular with children since it was first published in 1964. It tells the story of a boy called Max and his imaginary creations, the wild things. Even though the wild things are monsters, children find them engaging rather than scary.
Look at the pictures of the figurines below. They are made of resin and were created by McFarlane toys. Think about why children would find these characters appealing rather than scary.
