Write a discussion

To prepare yourself to look at conflicting views on an issue and to form your own opinion, look at Text 1 in Worlds Collide.

Research a topical issue that has arguments for and against it, such as genetic engineering or human cloning.

Use FreeMind or MindMup 2.0 to create a mind map that contains a range of arguments for and against the issue you have chosen.

Use Google Docs or Microsoft Word to write a discussion presenting both sides of the issue with supporting evidence. Your introduction should present the issue and a brief overview of both sides of the argument. Your conclusion should present your opinion on this issue.

Post your completed discussion to a blog for others to comment on. Your teacher will set up a class blog for you and provide you with a link to the blog.

The discussion scaffold (.PDF 177KB) and discussion checklist (.DOCX 18KB) will help you plan, write and check your discussion.
