Refugee community resource kit

Why make a kit?

A ‘Refugee community resource kit’ will help welcome refugees into your community. The goal is to aid refugees to feel safe and comfortable in their new surroundings. It will act as a guide for refugees learning about the local community.

It will also educate existing community members with relevant, factual information to help them support and welcome their new neighbours.

What goes into a kit?

Kits can contain some or all of the following items:

  • an infographic

  • a community blanket

  • a video message

  • a customised Google map

  • a rap song or poem

  • a non-spoken guide.

Details on each of these items are available in the ‘Culminating task’ section.

Negotiation needed?

A kit would usually contain only one of each item so teams may need to negotiate with each other, or your teacher, over the item they will produce. If your team has a great idea for something that is not on this list you should negotiate with your class.
