• Joan Ross introduces Funny face I Love You

  • I like to use humour in my art work to convey more serious messages, though making something funny is not as easy as it sounds! The work's slapstick effect is similar to something you might see on a Funniest Home Videos show. My video demonstrates how access to new technology allows us to create work in our homes or schools, which can bring out a variety of emotional responses from an audience.

  • I like the work's slapstick effect, as being similar to what you might see on a funniest home videos show. In a way the video demonstrates how access to new technology allows us to create work in our homes (schools) that can engage a variety of emotional responses from an audience.

  • While the video is intended to be humorous, the work also explores the way in which we see and imagine human-like qualities and feelings in both domestic and wild animals. This is called 'anthropomorphism', meaning placing human characteristics and behaviour onto animals

  • Hi, I'm Joan. Here's some things that I wanted to let you know, about my video piece. I often use humor in my work to convey a more serious message, but making something funny is not as easy as it sounds.

  • In a lot of my work I like to use found objects. In this work I had a lot of fun using a collage effect. I incorporated my own and found images with timing and sound. The work's slap stick effect is similar to something you might see on a funniest home video show. I really like using new technology. My video shows how you can use this technology at home, or at school, to try to bring out different responses from an audience, especially how timing and sound can change the meaning of the work.

  • While this video is intended to be funny, it also looks at the way in which we often project human qualities and feelings on to animals. This is called anthropomorphism. I really hope this inspires you to try it yourselves, to create your own collage of images and sounds.
