Select three different areas in your school that are used by students. Each should have a different purpose and/or cater for different sized groups or specialised needs. Examples could be: a classroom, the library, the canteen, the hall.

  • Take photos of features and equipment such as doors, windows, lights, electrical equipment, storage spaces, heating/air conditioning units, sinks etc. Create a collage using these photos. Use an online collage creation program such as Kizoa or use the layers feature in Adobe Photoshop Elements to construct the collage.

  • Sketch each space (include doors and windows) and list the features and equipment that use electricity eg air conditioners, fans, heaters, IWBs, photocopier, computers. Describe the function of the features and equipment. Use this Google Drawing template and share with your teacher/ peer or post to Google Classroom. See a completed example.

Complete a site map of your school and identify the spaces you investigated on your safari. Using the information you collected, show the features of each space on the map.

This could be done by:

  1. tracing over a photocopy of the school plan.

  2. using Google My Maps to place markers and descriptions on a Google map. Examine this example to give you some ideas. Click the paddles on the map for details about the features of that location.
