Curriculum-framing questions are integral to project-based learning as they enable syllabus outcomes and the principles of Quality teaching–such as higher-order thinking, problematic knowledge and connectedness–to be tied to real-world contexts, while engaging and enthusing learners.

Intel Education describes three levels of curriculum-framing questions and provides some excellent strategies for developing open-ended questions that could be applied in a Collaboratus resource:

  • Essential question–could be the title of the resource. It could relate to one learning area or cross a number of learning areas or cross-curricular capabilities.

  • Unit question–could be the question posed in the Overview section of the resource.

  • Content question–could be the questions asked in the Content sections, requiring the learner to explore subject matter further.
